The fund is currently open to project proposals submitted by Somali or Afghan diaspora organisations based in Denmark in cooperation with either a local partner or their own local branch in the target area.
Project activities can only be supported in Somalia (Somaliland, Puntland and South-Central Somalia) and Afghanistan as well as those areas in neighbouring countries where large number of refugees reside (e.g. Pakistan, Ethiopia and Kenya).
Diaspora organisations may apply for a maximum of DKK 250,000 per project (the total budget may be higher taking into account co-financing). Diaspora organisations that have previously received funding from DiPS may apply for a maximum of DKK 500,000. A minimum of 15% co-financing is mandatory.

Workshops in support of developing project proposals are held (e.g. budget trainings and proposal coaching cafés)
Review of proposals by the elected Afghan and Somali Advisory Boards, CISU and DiPS (HQ/field)
Decision by DP Executive Committee on which proposals are pre-approved for further development
Applicant organizations are informed on which proposals are pre-approved
(all applicants receive a reply with individual comments)
Mid-August and
Mid-February
Proposals are developed into full projects and all supporting documents are submitted by the applicant
Training activities are held on project cycle management, finance requirements and procurement (if relevant) – participation is mandatory
DiPS (HQ/field) verifies the project activities and budget allocations and conducts relevant background checks
After the contract is signed
Applicants may expect feedback on their proposals within 10 weeks from submission deadlines (June and December). The total period from project proposal submission to project start, including project management training, may take from 2.5 to 6 months depending on the diaspora organisation's project implementing capacity.
